Choose ESC campaign launch in Rome 8 May 2007

ESC – Electronic Stability Control – is the most important new vehicle safety device that can help Europe meet the goal of cutting by half road fatalities by 2010. But is the European Union doing enough to promote this life saving eSafety technology? And why is the United States taking the lead in a safety system that was invented in Europe?

‘Choose ESC!’ is a European wide initiative to promote consumer awareness of Electronic Stability Control. The launch was  held 8th May in Aprilia near Rome (at the Bridgestone European Test Centre).

The launch event featured:

• The launch of the new ‘Choose ESC!’ public information campaign
• Release of the EU wide ESC availability survey by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP)
• Comparison of the US and EU experience of ESC
• Test demonstrations of ESC and the new regulatory test procedure
• An international workshop with experts from Australia, Canada, EU, and the USA.

Electronic Stability Control hands-on drive experience
Participants had the chance to test the difference between driving Electronic Stability Control-equipped cars and cars that are not fitted with the life-saving technology.

High-level seminar on Electronic Stability Control deployment
The seminar gave an overview of the state of Electronic Stability Control deployment in Europe and the estimated benefits of the technology, discussed the experiences of other regions such as Australia, Canada, and the United States, and reviewed policy options to advance the rollout of Electronic Stability Control.
