ESC penetration rates improved in 2008

The recently published ESC penetration rates for new car registrations in Europe show a slight improvement.  The overall installation rate increased from 50% in 2007 to 53% in the first half of 2008. Comparing the major European countries there is a remarkable increase in Spain (from 57% to 62%), Luxembourg (from 56% to 62%), UK (from 48% to 56%) and Italy (from 42% to 48%). On the other hand, rates went down in France from 46% to 43%, while the Netherlands remain constant at 43%.

A lot of work also has to be done in the A- and B-segments. In both segments around 80% of all cars were bought without ESC. These two categories represent about 40% of all car sales in Europe and are often driven by young, inexperienced drivers.
